From patriotic films and public service announcements to retelling of historical events, war themes in films have developed into a distinct genre that is now an important artistic expression of people and politics. But why are war movies so popular with audiences, filmmakers and critics? This is not because anyone wants to see the atrocities that war brings, but because we want to see behind the scenes, go to a place we have never been, or learn something that no one should experience directly in real life.

Most of the time, war movies are wildly popular among moviegoers not only for their heroism or glorified portrayal of events, but also for the atmosphere they create. Brutal as they may be, war movies are a way of turning the most horrific acts of human society into fascinating and immersive works of art. It remakes history for future generations, evokes empathy, and pushes us to become better as a species. War stories humanize our plots, bring us closer to things we often distance ourselves from, and give us a different perspective.

Now revelation Redux

If you've seen the original Apocalypse Now classic, then this should be your follow-up. If you don't, then this should be at the top of your list of classic war movies. This epic psychological war film is considered one of the best works by award-winning filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. Coppola produced Apocalypse Now in 1979, and then 22 years later he released an extended version called Apocalypse Now. The 2001 film is technically a re-edit of Apocalypse Now, including about 50 minutes of additional material that wasn't in the original version.

The king

Although based on and made into an epic, The King is technically a movie about a historical war. The story is adapted from William Shakespeare's Henry Yard. Adapted from three different plays by Henry IV and Henry V, the action focuses on Henry V, the eldest son of King Henry IV of England. The Prince is an emotionally detached and disenchanted man who undergoes a life and personality transformation after the death of his father. Henry must navigate his emotions, royal politics, and rivals left behind by his father, and become the rightful king his kingdom expected him to be.

Five blood

There were the usual stories of Vietnam veterans, and then Da 5 Bloods. A critically acclaimed but still underrated film, to say the least, Da 5 Bloods is a powerful story that's hard to forget if you see it once.
