Mareep is a cute Electric Yarn Pokémon from Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that can evolve into Flaaffy and then Ampharos once certain conditions are met. While the Mareep's utility in combat isn't quite as appealing as its cute looks, it certainly offers excellent value in combat as the final evolved form of the Ampharos. There are two main ways to find Mareep, but trainers must first complete the main Pokémon BDSP story in order to use them.

To complete the basic content of Pokémon BDSP, players need to defeat the Elite Four and the Champion Cynthia. They must also see all 150× Pokémon in the Sinnoh area. After completing these two prerequisites, they can go to Sandgem Town and talk to Professor Rowan inside the lab to obtain the National Pokédex and Poké Radar, two items needed to encounter Mareep. With PokéRadar, players have a 5-20% chance of finding Mareep in Valley Windworks. It is also possible to encounter Mareep's second evolution, Flaaffy, in the Pokémon BDSP while using the radar on Route 222. The second way to capture Mareep is to explore the Great Underground. First, chat with the Underground Man in Eterna City to enter the Grand Underground by acquiring the Explorer Kit. Once the trainer is below the surface, Mareep can be encountered at Whiteout Cave, Sunlit Cavern and Grassland Cave. While each of these three locations can be explored, players can focus their search on one area. By exiting and re-entering the cave, all wild Pokémon will reset, thus regaining the chance to find Mareep.

Once a Trainer catches a Mareep, it can be upgraded to a Flaaffy, bringing it to level 15. If a captured Pokémon has reached level 15 or higher, fans can give it a rare candy in the Pokémon BDSP to instantly level up and evolve into Flaaffy. For Flaaffy to mature into Ampharos, it must be level 30.

To quickly level up a BDSP Pokémon, trainers can give it a Lucky Egg, a unique item that increases combat experience by 1.5 times. Alternatively, hideouts are great areas for level grinding, as the wild Pokémon in each hideout can be adapted to the player's party.

Players can capture or trade with players in the game, but trading with players is not necessarily safe.
