According to The Elec, Samsung plans to purchase up to 4 million LG Display panels next year, which will result in an increase in the number of IPS small lcd screen-equipped Samsung QLED TVs. It is possible that OLED panels will be used as well.

South Korea has agreed to a truce.

In 2017, Bloomberg reported that Samsung had been forced to seek assistance from arch rival LG due to a shortage of VATN LCD panels. This has resulted in several of Samsung's TV models, including Neo QLED models scheduled for release in 2021 (see the TV Database), being equipped with low-contrast IPS LCD panels rather than the high-contrast VA 10.1 inch lcd panels that were previously used in Samsung TVs.

According to a new report from Korea's The Elec, Samsung is hoping to reduce its reliance on Chinese panel manufacturers such as TCL CSoT and BOE by increasing its shipments of small lcd display panels from AUO, Sharp, and LG Display in the coming year.

- Samsung Electronics will diversify its LCD TV panel purchase line even further in the coming year, compared to the previous year. According to The Elec, this is being done in order to reduce reliance on Chinese panel manufacturers, who have dominated the global LCD manufacturer market. The company expects to supply Samsung Electronics with 4 million large small lcd screen units next year, which is nearly five times the hundreds of thousands of units it expects to supply in the first quarter of this year. Regarding LCD panel quality, it is well known that Samsung Electronics prefers LG Display over Chinese companies in this regard.

A point of contention is how many LG Display's IPS LCD panels Samsung Electronics is planning to purchase, with some speculators estimating as many as 1,000 panels. Omdia, a market research firm, predicts that the share will be less than 2% of Samsung's projected 44-45 million TV sales in 2022, or approximately 1 million panels.

Samsung Display, which has previously supplied the majority of the sunlight readable lcd panels used in Samsung Electronics' television models, is expected to exit the LCD TV panel manufacturing business next year after deciding to postpone its exit due to the coronavirus.

OLED panels, as well?

Samsung Electronics is reportedly in talks with LG Display to purchase OLED panels, according to reports that surfaced earlier this year. According to the latest report from The Elec, such negotiations are once again taking place.
