E-Cigs Emit Harmful Chemicals
E-cigarettes are the latest trend in smoking cessation, but they come with a few health risks.
Although electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) are marketed as a healthier alternative to smoking tobacco cigarettes, research suggests that e-cigs may actually be just as harmful.
"There's no question that e-cigarettes are far safer than traditional tobacco products," said Dr. Roy Herbst, chief of medical oncology at Yale Cancer Center in New Haven, Conn., who was not involved in the study. "However, this study suggests that they may not be completely safe."
Researchers found that the vapors produced by e-cigarettes contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including acrolein and formaldehyde — chemicals that are known to cause cancer in humans and animals. They also discovered that these toxic fumes can linger in the air and be inhaled by bystanders.
The researchers recruited 15 smokers and 15 nonsmokers to participate in their study. The volunteers were asked to puff on commercial e-cigarette devices for two minutes each time for five consecutive days. Then they were asked to refrain from using e-cigs for 24 hours before going back into the lab for another round of puffing on their device.
Secondhand Smoke
The electronic cigarette is a great alternative to smoking actual cigarettes. While it may be considered less harmful, there are still a lot of people who do not want you to smoke an e-cigarette in public because it can be just as bad for your health as the real thing.
The first reason is secondhand smoke. Even though you're not inhaling secondhand smoke from an e-cig, the vaporized liquid still contains nicotine and other harmful chemicals that can be dangerous to others around you.
Second, there are many places where you cannot use an e-cig. You can't use them on airplanes, buses or trains because they contain lithium batteries that can cause fires if they overheat or malfunction. Some restaurants have banned them because of their odor and the fact that many people don't know what they are when they see them in use. There are also some states that have banned their use indoors because they fear they will attract children to try them out because they look like candy cigarettes.
Some People May Confuse The Device For A Gun
The electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) is a device that is used to vaporize a liquid solution containing nicotine, which is then inhaled. The e-cigarette has been on the market since 2004 and many people use it as an alternative to tobacco products.
The FDA has not approved e-cigarettes for use as a smoking cessation device, and there are no regulations regarding their sale or marketing. This creates confusion about whether it's OK to use them in public places.
Some states have laws prohibiting the use of e-cigarettes in workplaces, restaurants and other public places. But none of these laws apply to private residences or vehicles. If you're unsure about whether it's legal for you to use an e-cigarette in a particular place, check with local authorities before vaping indoors or outdoors.
People May Confuse Them For Conventional Cigarettes
Electronic cigarettes are a relatively new invention and have been a hot topic in the media lately. There has been much debate over whether they should be allowed in public places, and many people are wondering whether they are safe to use.
One of the main reasons that people smoke is because they enjoy the act of doing so. The nicotine is addictive, but it's not what makes smoking pleasurable for most smokers. It's all about the hand-to-mouth action and the social aspects of smoking with friends or strangers alike.
Unfortunately, electronic cigarettes don't provide this same level of satisfaction. Vaping is an activity that doesn't involve any physical interaction between you and your device, so if you don't like it anymore then you can just switch it off and put it away.
This may be why many people who try electronic cigarettes end up quitting tobacco entirely; once they've experienced how easy it is to go smoke free, they don't want to go back!
However, there are still some smokers who prefer traditional cigarettes over e-cigs due to their taste or throat hit (the sensation felt when inhaling). For these people, vaping may not be an ideal solution because they would rather keep smoking than give up those satisfying sensations.
