Although the hoglet season can start in the early spring after a warm winter and go until the end of the year, hedgehogs typically give birth between the months of June and July. There are typically four or five young in a litter, however this number can reach seven. However, they often only succeed in weaning two or three animals. If disturbed, the mother is likely to flee or possibly consume the hoglets. She occasionally transports them to new locations in her mouth.
